Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS)
Objective: The primary objective of this scheme is to enhance livelihood security for people in rural areas by guaranteeing at least 100 days of wage employment in a financial year to every rural household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.
Key Features
Legal Right to Work: The scheme envisions providing employment within 15 days of applying for a Job Card.
Women's Participation: Aiming at women's empowerment, a major share of the beneficiaries under this scheme is reserved for women.
Wages via Bank Accounts: To eliminate exploitation by middlemen, wages are credited directly into the workers' bank or post office accounts.
Localized Planning: The development works to be undertaken each year are selected and implemented by the Panchayats based on recommendations from the Ward Sabhas and Grama Sabhas.
Major Activities in Kanichar Panchayat
In our Panchayat, the following works prioritized for local development and environmental protection are being successfully implemented through the employment guarantee scheme:
Water Conservation: Rejuvenation of streams, construction of rain pits (percolation pits), well recharging, and construction and renovation of ponds.
Soil Conservation: Prevention of soil erosion through the construction of earthen bunds, stone retaining walls, and terracing.
Agricultural and Allied Activities: Planting of saplings on public/private lands, setting up of fruit orchards, compost pits, and financial/material assistance for the construction of goat sheds, poultry coops, and cattle sheds.
Rural Infrastructure: Construction and concreting of rural roads, and construction of Anganwadi buildings.
Eligibility Criteria for Obtaining a Job Card
Applicants must be permanent residents of the Grama Panchayat.
Members must be adults (who have completed 18 years of age).
Members must be willing to volunteer for unskilled manual labor.
How to Apply: Interested households should prepare an application on plain paper or in the prescribed format and submit it along with their Ration Card, [Aadhaar Redacted], Bank Passbook, and photograph, either through their respective Ward Member or directly to the Grama Panchayat Office.
