Veterinary Dispensary (Animal Hospital)
A Veterinary Dispensary is a government institution established at the local self-government level to provide primary healthcare and medical treatment for pets and livestock. Operating under the Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Kerala, these dispensaries function across all Grama Panchayats and Municipalities.
Key Services
Diagnosis and Treatment: Outpatient (OP) treatment and medicine distribution for animals such as cattle, goats, poultry, dogs, and cats.
Preventive Vaccinations: Vaccination drives against fatal diseases like Rabies, Hemorrhagic Septicemia (Kurulappan), and Black Quarter (Characharappan).
Artificial Insemination: Artificial Insemination (AI) services and pregnancy check-ups aimed at improving livestock productivity.
Government Schemes: Coordination of calf-rearing programs, promotion of subsidized fodder cultivation, and livestock insurance schemes.
Awareness Programs: Providing necessary guidance and training sessions to farmers on scientific animal husbandry practices.
