ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services)
ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) is a major social welfare scheme implemented by the Government of India, aimed at the comprehensive health and nutritional development of children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. Launched in 1975, this project functions under the Department of Women and Child Development.
The core objectives of the ICDS project are to improve the nutritional and health status of children between 0 to 6 years of age, ensure healthcare for pregnant women and lactating mothers, reduce infant mortality and malnutrition, provide pre-school education, and impart health and nutrition awareness to parents.
Key Services Offered Through ICDS
Supplementary Nutrition: Providing additional nutritional food to children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
Pre-school Education: Conducting fundamental learning and play activities at Anganwadis for children aged between 3 to 6 years.
Immunization: Ensuring vaccination drives against various diseases for children and mothers.
Health Check-ups: Monitoring the growth and general health status of children.
Referral Services: Referring children or mothers facing severe health issues to specialized hospitals.
Nutrition and Health Education: Providing training and awareness sessions to mothers regarding hygiene, proper nutrition, and childcare.
Anganwadis serve as the primary operational centers for the ICDS project. An Anganwadi is a village-level child development center functioning as part of India's ICDS program. The main goal of Anganwadis is to enhance the health, nutritional status, and early education of children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. There are 20 Anganwadis functioning across various wards in Kanichar Grama Panchayat.
